The Arete Award
The intent of the Latin Lyceum Program is to promote high academic achievement and to produce well-rounded citizens. The Arete Award was established to recognize those students whose scholarship and actions demonstrate the spirit of a Classical Education program that is intended to produce active, thoughtful, and reflective citizens. There are three categories for the Lowell Latin Lyceum Arete (Excellence) Awards (Scolaris, Humanitas, and Athletis). The Lyceum scholar must be eligible in two or more categories, one of which must be the Scolaris category, in order to qualify for an award. Students who achieve high academic standing, but do not participate in charitable or cultural activities or athletics, are not eligible for any award. Scholarships are awarded to students who meet the requirements in all three categories of the Arete Award : Scolaris, Humanitas, and Athletis. Non-scholarship awards are presented to students who meet the requirements of the Humanitas or the Athletis categories in addition to the Scolaris category.
